MAKE SAFE, FEEL SAFE

Letter from the ISPE UK Affiliate Chair, Chris Leman

We are continuing our “Make Safe, Feel Safe” initiative, this year.

This initiative was started in 2023 when we became aware that the behaviour of a small number of guests had resulted in some ISPE members and sponsor companies feeling that the event was not fully inclusive. ISPE UK is committed to being an inclusive organisation and we wish to ensure that all attendees feel welcome and respected.

We recognise that, on a limited number of occasions at past events, some attendees have overstepped boundaries and caused issues.

The ISPE Annual Awards Dinner is a social event, and we recognise that alcohol can play a part in people’s behaviour. However, the ISPE UK Board is firmly against any form of abusive or inappropriate behaviour.

As a society of professionals, we have an expected code of conduct and must continually strive to do better, providing an inclusive, respectful and safe environment for everyone attending our events.

Therefore, the “Make Safe, Feel Safe” initiative has adopted the following actions:

  1. ISPE UK Volunteers and CFS Staff will be identifiable throughout the evening. If you feel unsafe or need assistance, please approach a member of the team.
  2. A designated quiet area will be available and clearly communicated, providing anyone who needs some quiet time with a space to step away from the event.
  3. Evening communications and notices will remind attendees of the expected standards of behaviour.

If you need assistance at any time, please speak to a trusted friend, contact an ISPE or CFS team member, or make use of the quiet area.

We are pleased to say that, since this initiative was introduced, there have been no reported incidents, and we wish to maintain this as the normal approach to organising ISPE UK events.

If anyone would like to discuss any aspect of the above communication, please contact us privately at: secretary@ispeuk.org

Finally, together with the ISPE North East Regional Committee, we are all looking forward to another successful event. We hope that everyone can enjoy the results of the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and CFS.

We want this to be an inclusive and enjoyable pharmaceutical networking event for everyone.

Your sincerely,

Chris Leman, ISPE UK Affiliate Chair
