18th November 2024

Letter from the ISPE UK Affiliate Chair, Zam Thahir.

We are continuing our “Make Safe, Feel Safe” initiative, this year.

This was started in 2023 when we became aware that the behaviour of a small number of guests meant that some ISPE members and sponsor companies felt that the event was not inclusive. ISPE UK is an inclusive organisation and we wish to remedy this situation.

We recognise that some attendees have overstepped boundaries and caused issues at a limited number of our past events.

The ISPE Annual Awards dinner is a social event and we understand that alcohol plays a part in people’s behaviour, however the ISPE UK Board are entirely against any form of abusive behaviour.

As a society of professionals, we have an expected code of conduct and must strive to do better, providing an inclusive and safe environment for everyone attending our events.

Therefore the “Make Safe, Feel Safe” initiative has adopted the following actions:

1. All ISPE UK Volunteers and CFS Staff are identifiable throughout the night. If you feelunsafe or need assistance on the night, please find a member of the team.

2. There is a designated quiet tea and coffee area which will be communicated to allow anyone wanting some quiet time to be able to escape to.

3. Evening communications and notices reminding attendees of expected behaviour.

If you need assistance to feel safe, please use trusted friends, contact badged ISPE and CFS personnel or go to the quiet area.

We are pleased to say that since this initiative was started there have been no reported incidents and we wish to keep this as the normal way that ISPE UK events are organised.

If anyone would like to discuss any aspects of the above communication, then you can email in private to:

secretary@ispeuk.org

Finally, along with the ISPE Southern regional Committee we are all looking forward to another successful event and hope that we can all enjoy the results of hard work by dedicated volunteers and CFS.

We do want this to be an inclusive Pharmaceutical networking event.

Welcome all.

Yours Sincerely,

Zam Thahir
